3-5 day Agricultural Education Program

This 3-5 day program provides a truly unique opportunity for students to experience an all-inclusive educational program (with prearranged activities, food, drinks, accommodation, transportation etc.) with a difference!  From the bustling urban life many learners come from they will be able to enjoy this country-based, experiential learning program that will emphasize the modern concepts of ‘where our food comes’ as well as allowing learners to experience behind the scenes of one of Australia’s largest company’s distribution sites. They to will also learn about examples of current agricultural research and farming practices being used today, by both small and large scale farmers. Challenges impacting the environmental management and sustainability of these industries will also be addressed and investigated.

Example itinerary:

Day 1:
Depart Brisbane/ Gold Coast. Stop off at Cunningham’s gap for a  stunning rainforest walk and nature talk. Arrive in Warick and start off your program with an informative short historical tour of the town admiring the quaint, old sandstone buildings and architecture. Settle in at Slade House, our accommodation for the program and enjoy a hearty dinner and entertaining orientation of ‘what lies ahead’ for the program and a full range of “the get to know each other” activities!

Day 2:
Wake up and breakfast are followed by a blissful river walk and bird watching/ ‘twitching’ session. Then visit the local Sheep Sales and Fraser’s transportation sites to learn about the ‘tricks of the trade.’ After lunch we visit a small scale dairy farm and the town’s local ‘leather man.’ In the evening some fun and sports are enjoyed at the Sports and Recreation Centre.

Day 3:
Early morning visit to a large scale dairy farm, making use of a modern rotary milking system. Visit the incredible sandstone factory and quarry to learn about the practical and business side of this highly specialized industry. After lunch we visit Big W Distribution Centre, where learners will experience the intricate systems of how such major companies function in our modern world. Fun and sports are enjoyed at the local recreation center where aspects of personal growth, team building and social interaction are encouraged through the variety of indoor and outdoor activities e.g. rock climbing, canoe polo, volleyball, basketball etc.

Day 4:
Students enjoy an early walk along the river for an interpretative trail and amazing bird watching/ ‘twitching’ opportunities. We then head off to visit Hermitage DPI Research Centre to learn about their contribution to the agricultural world and food production industry. A local abbattoire is next on our agenda where learn how our meat products move from paddock to plate. Queensland’s finest Stud Farm provides learners with an opportunity to learn about a very highly sort after industry.

Day 5:
Wake up on your last morning to enjoy a river walk, bird watching or some reflection time. We then head off to visit a working cornmill site, meet Farmer Peter & the farmers at Siledge Solutions. We depart Warick and enjoy an amazing hike at Queenmary Falls before heading heading home to Brisbane/ Gold Coast.
